Rents in the Capital Continue to Rise

 Apartment rents rose by 1.7 percent nationally and by 2.1 percent in the capital in January compared to a month earlier, a turnaround from the stagnant, declining trend seen in September-December last year, according to a rent index by the Central Statistics Office and real estate website Ingatlan.com.

According to the data, rents were 20 percent higher nationally and 22 percent higher in the capital in January compared to the same period last year, and 75 and 69 percent higher respectively compared to 2015, reflecting the mind-boggling price increases seen in the property market in recent years.

In January, rents rose in all districts of Budapest in a month, with the highest increases of 3.5 percent in the Buda hill districts and 2-3 percent in the inner and outer districts of Pest.

The Czech Republic is suing Russia for unpaid rent on communist-era buildings

  While Czechoslovakia was a communist satellite, the buildings were given away for free "under the threat of Russian guns and tanks" but are still used today by Moscow diplomats. The oft-tense diplomatic relations between the Czech Republic and Russia took a turn for the worse when the central European state’s foreign ministry announced it planned to sue the Kremlin for unpaid rent earlier this week. Cost of German care insurance could rise in July

To combat the steep cost of care, the German Health Ministry is planning to increase monthly contributions to the care insurance fund, according to media reports. According to a draft law seen by DPA and reported on by other media outlets on Friday, contributions could increase by 0.35 percent as of July 1st, 2023. On the other hand, those receiving care would get more financial aid from the state.  Specifically, the draft outlines plans to increase the care allowance for people in nursing homes from January 1st, 2024 and also hike relief for people receiving care at home.
